Volunteer doulas are the heart and soul of our organization. As our programming and the scope of our work expands, we seek more doulas to join our community. The Project recruits abortion, birth and adoption doulas. Sign up for our mailing list to be the first to hear about volunteer opportunities.
Abortion Doulas
We train birth doulas and social justice activists on the doula model of care in an abortion clinic setting in NYC. While we encourage already trained birth doulas to apply, it is not a requirement. We require and provide 40 hours of classroom and clinic training. Recruitments and trainings are held one to two times annually. We currently provide services to patients during weekdays, as well as open on-call hours. Volunteers are expected to work a minimum of two days each month. This position is currently unpaid.
Adoption Doulas
We recruit already trained pro-choice birth doulas to work on an individual and on-call basis with birth moms through Spence-Chapin Children and Family Services. Spence-Chapin provides adoption training to all doulas. This position is stipended by Spence-Chapin.
Birth Doulas for Low-income People
We work on a case-by-case basis with low-income people who cannot otherwise afford birth doula services. This service is currently not affiliated with any hospital or organization.
