Intern With The Doula Project This Fall!

The Doula Project is looking for two fall interns to work with us in both clinical and administrative settings. You'll gain hands-on experience as both a birth and abortion doula and participate directly in the workings of the Project. Interns are a critical and invaluable part of the work we do!

Responsibilities:

-Work in our partner clinics providing full-spectrum doula support to people choosing abortion or experiencing fetal loss
-Work on the labor and delivery floor of one of NYC’s public hospitals to provide birth support
-Provide programmatic and communications support to the project coordinators, including helping organize monthly meetings, sending out scheduling reminders to doulas, updating our website and social networking sites, editing and writing pieces of our training toolkit, and other tasks

Qualifications:

-Previous clinical experience ideal
-Currently a birth doula or willing to seek out training and scholarships with the DP’s assistance
-Strong communication skills
-Capacity to support people facing difficult and emotional situations
-Capacity to work in high-stress, high-endurance settings
-Comfortable working with medical professionals and being exposed to blood and medical procedures
-Comfortable with touching patients/clients and providing physical support measures
-Basic computer skills
-Bilingual candidates strongly preferred

How to apply:

Internships are 20 hours a week. Interns must be available at least three full days per week (Monday–Saturday). Interns should be available Monday afternoons and/or Tuesday afternoons AND all day on Wednesdays and/or all day on Thursdays.

Please write a cover letter that includes a brief personal statement in response to the following questions (limit 100-500 words): What does the phrase “Spectrum of Choice” mean to you? How do you see this phrase as being relevant to being a doula? Please include your availability in your cover letter.

Please also submit a resume highlighting your work in reproductive health, rights, or justice, counseling, social work, doula work, our health services, and two references who would not mind being contacted.

Volunteer with Us! Now Accepting Applications for Spring 2017

We are recruiting volunteer full-spectrum doulas to become part of the Doula Project! People who are passionate, caring, and committed are encouraged to apply. Any experience in doula work, reproductive health, rights and justice work, abortion counseling, health service, or personal experiences can be helpful, but isn’t necessary. Many of our best doulas have had no professional experience, but a dedicated attitude and a desire to learn more and be a part of the Doula Project. We strongly encourage people of color, people with dis/abilities, trans or genderqueer identified folks (especially transfeminine folks), queer-identified folks, people born outside the USA, Spanish speakers, people living with HIV/AIDS, and people of faith to apply.
